Welcome to Clapham Park

This part of London’s history began when a builder named Thomas Cubitt bought over 200 acres of land in 1825. He decided to build a new estate in a style which he has made distinctive in Britain – although internationally, it was known as the Italianate style: a distinct phase of classical architecture. Classic it may be, but this made the area instantly stand out against its neighbours thanks to its villa-like aesthetic. This gave it a continental feel which was rather unusual for the 19th century.

A couple of things remain from this era, and that’s the area’s ability to stand out and its forward-thinking sense of innovation – even if the architectural ideas found here have long since moved from progressive to classic. Although Clapham Park may have long since transformed multiple times to the point where it is now close to unrecognisable, that innovative spirit – as is the case for the suburb of Clapham in general – very much lives on today.

This can be found in its art galleries, in the entrepreneurial spirit of its local businesses, and the diversity of experiences it can offer. You’ll just as easily find metropolitan innovation as you can relax in the 220-acres of unspoiled green space sprawled throughout the wider area of Clapham. In fact, there’s so much to choose from here that each part of Clapham has its own history, attractions and personality to offer. This means that when you move to Clapham Park, you are not limited to just that area’s positive attributes.

Of course, we can’t talk about the benefits of life here without also mentioning the convenient transport links to central London and the rest of the country via bus and railway. The opportunities offered by Clapham Park – both within its boundaries and beyond – are quite simply vast.

What is Shared Ownership?

Shared Ownership is a government scheme that allows buyers to purchase a share in a property, usually between 10% and 75%, while paying a reduced market rent to a housing association on the remainder. The scheme gives first time buyers and those that do not currently own a home the opportunity to purchase a share in a new-build or resales property.
