Top Tips: Get that festive feeling at home
How to make the most of Christmas at home!
Christmas may be the most magical time of the year but it comes with some pitfalls. Mainly, everywhere is busy and everything is expensive.
However, being able to spend a little extra time at home with your nearest and dearest is one of the best things about the festive period. So, we’ve taken a look at some of the cheap and cheerful ways that you can bring a little extra joy in from the cold this December.
Watch a holiday movie
Whether you prefer traditional classics like It’s a Wonderful Life or modern favourites such as Elf, is there anything cosier than getting into your pyjamas, making yourself a hot chocolate and snuggling up on the sofa to watch your favourite Christmas film? You can even make a night of it – gather the family, order in a takeaway and get ready for a magical movie marathon!
Host a games night
Everyone has a game that they just love to play on Christmas day, so why not host your very own games night in the lead up to Crimbo? Invite some close friends around (you can decide whether twinkling, tinsel covered jumpers are mandatory or not), lay out the festive snacks and serve up some mulled wine. You’re guaranteed to be feeling merry in no time!
Wrapping stations
So many people see wrapping gifts as a real chore but it doesn’t have to be! Why not set aside a whole afternoon and make a real event of it – all you need to do is put on your favourite Christmas playlist and have plenty of mince pies at the ready. However, it may be worth setting aside a little extra time on a separate day to wrap presents for anyone you live with (no peeking allowed!).
Deck the halls
Christmas isn’t just about the tree, you know. Whether you like to partake in the festivities as early as possible or put it off until the last minute, take some time to decorate your home; hang stockings, spray fake snow on the windows or, if you’re feeling especially crafty, you could even make your own wreath for the front door!
Bake to your hearts content
Christmas is the ultimate time of year to adorn your most colourful apron and get baking. Whether you’re on par with the Great British Bake Off contestants or an absolute novice with a whisk, there will always be a festive recipe to suit your skill level.
Christmas scavenger hunt
While ‘night before Christmas’ boxes are all the rage at the moment, hosting your very own scavenger hunt is a fantastic way to get the kids even more excited on Christmas Eve. You could use an Elf on the Shelf or their favourite festive toy as a guide, writing up little clues to give them as they go on their merry way, scouting out small gifts and tasty treats hidden around your home.
